Last week saw the highly anticipated AA-sided digital single release from London artist Sampha via Young Turks. The featured tracks Too Much and Happens were recorded with the help of top American record producer Emile Haynie, and go far to demonstrate Sampha’s diverse musical personality.
Both tracks feature beautifully honest piano chords and vocals, showcasing the artists’ talent for creating intimate and immediate melodies (both tracks were impressively only recorded in September this year).
Many will be familiar with Too Much, after a demo version of the track was sampled by Canadian rapper Drake for his recent album Nothing Was The Same, which saw the track go on to top the Billboard 100 charts in America.
Backed by brand new track Happens, the AA-side release is primarily focussed on Sampha’s piano and vocal skills, which are respectively soulful and sincere melodies.
The release follows collaborations with the likes of Koreless, SBTRKT, Jessie Ware and Lil Silva, along with his previous solo Dual EP release earlier this year, which have established Sampha as one of the most exciting and fascinating artists to watch for 2014.
Too Much/Happens is available to purchase as a digital download now from iTunes here, and will be available on vinyl from 7th January.
