How many more tweets and angry Facebook posts do we need to see about the change in weather? Yes, it’s September and yes, summer is drawing to a close but it isn’t over just yet. There are still plenty of brilliant music events happening across the UK including everyone’s favourite, Bestival.
This year, the festival will be happening between Thursday 10th and Sunday 13th September, taking place at the same spot it’s occupied for the last eleven years, Robin Hill County Park, situated on the beautiful Isle of Wight.
The brainchild of legendary DJs Rob da Bank and his wife, Josie, this festival offers something for everyone. Enjoy comedy with Alfie Brown and Elliot Steel, feast your eyes on the incredible outfits on display during the carnival procession or just feast generally on the delicious food on offer.
Bestival remains one of the stand out festivals of the entire season thanks to its massive acts, crazy themes, special guests and secret parties. To give you an idea of what you’re in for, some of this year’s acts include Missy Elliot, Duran Duran, The Chemical Brothers, Tame Impala, Mark Ronson, FKA Twigs, Jamie XX and island regular, Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac.
If you’re heading to the island this year, make sure you’ve got your fancy dress ready (anything that leaves a trail of glitter behind you will do) for this year’s Summer of Love theme. If you’re not, what’s your excuse? It might seem like a bit of a mission but travel from major cities to Robin Hill, is easy. You can get there from ports in Southampton, Portsmouth and Lymington, all of which have great transport links meaning that you can get to the ferries easily by train, car or coach.
It’s not just about the music at Bestival; the three day bonanza is known for hosting brilliant talks with proper clever types so if you’re getting a bit bored of your mates’ drunken antics, take a break and watch some of this year’s speakers, including Dr Jon Dawson (Science and Faith – Where’s The Love?) and Dr Jenny Josephs (The Great British Bug Off) .
If all of the above isn’t tickling your fancy, you should know that The Chuckle Brothers will be there and that there will be hot tubs and 24 hour free hair cuts on offer to everyone, so if that doesn’t persuade you, I don’t know what will.
If you want to know more about Bestival, take a look at the official website or read my review of last year’s festival.
Tickets are nearly sold out but you can still get your hands on some here. For more info about getting to the Isle of Wight, click here.
