In an unexpected announcement to many, it was revealed today that Ben Affleck will play the role of Batman in the new Man of Steel Superman sequel.
The sequel which supposedly will see Batman going against Superman is the first time that the two DC comic book characters have been in a live-action film together, and is slated to be released during 2015.
Warner Bros President Greg Silverman commented on the announcement by saying:
“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill and then some.”
Man of Steel, released this year proved a hit at the box office, but received mix reviews. This new Batman role will also be separate from Christopher Nolan’s hit Batman trilogy The Dark Knight.
It’s clear that the casting of Affleck is a controversial decision to many, with some saying that Affleck performs better as a director than an actor, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
