Grand Theft Auto V has achieved sales of over $1 billion in its first three days of release, according to publisher Take-Two.
This, it is believed, makes GTA V the fastest entertainment property to reach this milestone. The previous holder of this record was Call Of Duty: Black Ops II which took fifteen days to hit $1 billion. When compared with film records GTA V again comes out on top: James Cameron’s Avatar, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 and The Avengers all took nineteen days to earn $1 billion.
This news comes after Rockstar announced earlier this week that GTA V had produced $800 million in revenue in just 24 hours, making it the fastest selling game in UK history.
GTA V has earned widespread critical acclaim too, achieving a metascore of 98 and 97 on Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively. There’s no official word from Rockstar on next-gen versions of the game yet, but it looks like a PC version may well be on its way.
