The third series of HBOs critically acclaimed Game of Thrones (GoT) is on the way, with the first episode set to premiere on 31st March. Unfortunately for us in the UK, we have to wait until 1st April… Not much of a delay, but I know that extra day will be a long one for a lot of fans out there. This series will be based on the first half of George RR Martins A Storm of Swords, the third book of his A Song of Ice and Fire series (Which the TV series is based on). The choice to split the third book into two series may not make sense to some, but it is worth noting that the book itself was split into two parts for publication in the UK and Australia, four parts in France and it is the second longest books in the series.
Recently, a teaser trailer was released for the series, which can be seen below.
The series will see the addition of some new characters, and the return of a few that you may well have forgotten about. The part of Mance Rayder, the King beyond The Wall, will be played by Ciarán Hinds. Beric Dondarrion, who was briefly played by David Michael Scott in the first series, will make a return, with Richard Dormer taking the part this time around. Stannis Baratheon’s wife, Selyse, will be played by Tara Fitzgerald. Selyse appeared briefly in the second series, played by an unnamed extra. We will also get to meet some of Catelyn Starks’ family, with Clive Russell appearing as Brynden Tully, her uncle, and Tobias Menzies taking the part of her brother, Edmure Tully. UK viewers can watch the premier of GoT Series 3 at 9PM p, April 1st, on Sky Atlantic.
