While She Sleeps

Hailing from Sheffield, While She Sleeps are one of the most promising British metal bands right now. With a huge fan following, they were booked to play as direct support to the headline act, Architects, and it was clear to see that they were just as excited about being so high up on the bill as we all were about seeing them.

With their latest album, Brainwashed, released earlier this year to incredible fanfare, they had a lot to live up to, and they certainly delivered! With their hugely energetic performance matched with earth-shattering sound, frontman Lawrence Taylor even managed to spot his younger sister in the crowd and pull her up on stage for the remainder of the set. It was a lovely touch, especially right before performing the song “Our Legacy.”

Blazing through fan favourites such as “This Is The Six” and “Our Courage, Our Cancer,” While She Sleeps delivered a wonderful combination of new and old songs, playing “Crows,” their first ever single, along with four songs from their debut full length This Is The Six and five songs from Brainwashed, including the hauntingly beautiful acoustic track “We Are Alive At Night.”

The only thing that marred their set slightly were what seemed like technical issues with the microphones. On several occasions, when guitarist Mat Welsh stepped forward to provide secondary/backup vocals, his microphone was either too quiet or simply wasn’t on.

On the whole, though, as an avid fan of the band and having seen them perform on numerous occasions prior to this, including Vans Warped Tour UK 2013, I can say that they certainly weren’t any less impressive than of the other performances I’ve been lucky enough to attend and they are certainly on the path to greatness.
