LIVE REVIEW: STICK TO YOUR GUNS – SLAM DUNK SOUTH 2015

Stick To Your Guns

Stick To Your Guns are a hardcore band from Orange County in sunny California. Having heard plenty about them without having listened to them, once I saw them announced on the bill I decided to check them out and I was not disappointed. As a result, their set was one of the ones I was most looking forward to at Slam Dunk South 2015.

Opening with the lead single, Nobody, from their latest album Disobedient, released earlier this year, they kicked things off with a bang. This genuinely happens to be my favourite Stick To Your Guns song, and it got me really pumped up for the rest of their set. The vocals were incredible, the guitar tones were massive and the drum kit sounded enormous! The only criticism I have is that in between songs, while vocalist Jesse Barnett was telling the story behind various songs, the two guitarists had a habit of standing in front of their amps, creating feedback, which made it harder to understand what Jesse was saying. Overall, though, a minor blemish in an otherwise remarkable performance.

They blasted their way through a host of songs from their two latest albums, including the songs Empty Heads, What Choice Did You Give Us?, Such Pain, Nothing You Can Do To Me, Bringing You Down, I Choose Nothing, We Still Believe, and Diamond, before closing with Against Them All. Along the way they also played a couple of their older songs, namely Amber and What Goes Around, which was sure to please all die-hard fans of the band.

In-fact, their music certainly connected with a lot of the fans in attendance. Taking place on the smaller Impericon stage, the room was completely packed out, leaving no room for anyone to be able to move around, with the exception, of course, being the inevitable circle pits that opened up during the heavier songs.

These guys put on a fantastic performance and are definitely a band I want to see again.
